Former Morehouse College and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) CMO to lead marketing and admissions for Helms College

AUGUSTA AND MACON, Ga., Feb. 24, 2022 – Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia (GIMG) today announced the appointment of José Mallabo to the role of chief marketing officer and senior vice president of marketing. His role will also include leading marketing and admissions for Helms College, a private, nonprofit and accredited career college with campuses in Augusta and Macon that feature complimentary applied learning enterprises through the School of Culinary Arts (edgarshospitality.com), School of Industrial Trades, and School of Health Sciences.

Mallabo brings to GIMG more than 30 years of U.S. and international experience as a multi-channel marketing and communications professional, including most recently serving as the chief marketing officer/chief revenue officer and vice president with Morehouse College in Atlanta.

“Jose’s work in growing enrollment at higher education institutions such as SCAD and Morehouse combined with his expertise in building the reputation of companies like eBay and LinkedIn makes him a perfect fit for leading marketing of our diversified education and social enterprises at GIMG,” said James K. Stiff, president/CEO of Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA. “I look forward to working with him as we expand our offerings at Helms into new markets and as we work to grow our reputation in hospitality, workforce development, and retail.”

Mallabo has proven success across many sectors, including e-commerce, travel, high-tech, and higher education, including work with Hewlett Packard, FedEx, Xerox, Kodak, eBay, LinkedIn, GSI Commerce, Savannah College of Art and Design, and Morehouse College.

Mallabo oversaw the creation of the new Morehouse website, news and events blog, virtual tour, augmented reality platform, admissions event platform, and faculty blog to support an entirely new digital and content marketing strategy centered on the prospective student experience as it relates to researching higher education, particularly HBCUs and Morehouse College. As chief marketing/revenue officer, Mallabo served on the president’s executive leadership team and supported multiple college committees focused on policy development, business process improvement, data protection, emergency management, data protection, and strategic planning.

At eBay Inc., Mallabo led corporate and financial communications globally and rebranded the company’s online classifieds properties around the world into eBay Classifieds Group. He led international corporate communications at LinkedIn, where he launched operations in Mumbai, Sydney, Toronto, and Amsterdam and built a marketing and public relations structure to serve local markets while integrating into the U.S. team. He has also held senior-level positions with agencies such as Ketchum Public Relations and Text 100 Public Relations.

Mallabo earned a master’s in mass communications from San Diego State University and a bachelor of arts in communications from La Salle University.
