Ribbon Cutting Scheduled at New Goodwill Industries Location in Macon The Press and Public are Invited to Celebrate
(MACON, Ga) – Goodwill of Middle Georgia and the CSRA will open a new upscale retail store on Friday, July 16th at 6109 Houston Rd in Macon. The store will open at 9 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce.
Hours of operation for donating and shopping will be Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. People will experience guilt-free shopping in Goodwill’s new retail venue of 13,000 square feet, with an ever-changing inventory of over 20,000 garments, accessories, and thousands of household items.
Retail training stores are a primary source of funding for Goodwill’s nonprofit mission to build lives, families and communities one career at a time. Eighty-six cents of every dollar earned funds training, education, career counseling and employment assistance for people facing barriers to employment.
In addition to retail operations, the new store will house a Career Center that will be staffed on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Local job seekers will be able to utilize this center for job search assistance, employment preparation, or education and training opportunities.
This latest social enterprise is coming to fruition thanks to the largest discretionary gift in the charity’s 45-year history from American novelist and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. Goodwill Industries of Middle GA was one of 384 organizations nationwide selected by Scott after months of due diligence.
“Our local Goodwill is deeply grateful for MacKenzie Scott’s recognition of our organization’s strategic delivery of vital services to people with the greatest needs,” James K. Stiff, President of Goodwill of Middle Georgia and the CSRA said.
He continued, "Her visionary and impactful capacity building investment will be transformative as we thoughtfully invest her gift to build career pathways out of poverty."
