Goodwill retail store and Edgar’s Grille to surprise lucky patrons with unexpected good deeds

On November 13, in recognition of World Kindness Day, Goodwill of Middle Georgia and the CSRA will do its part to spread kindness and encourage others to join in. In each of Goodwill’s retail locations, shoppers will be surprised throughout the day with random acts of kindness and 50 percent off their purchases (of $50 or less). Edgar’s Grille and Edgar’s Bistro will also be surprising a patron with a free meal.

Kindness Day was born when a collection of humanitarian groups came together on November 13, 1997 and made a “Declaration of Kindness.” Since then, people have been encouraged to commit acts of kindness: these could include donating money or unwanted items to charity, volunteering at an area nonprofit or to help a neighbor or bringing treats to one’s workplace. Even a compliment can help to brighten someone’s day. Kindness is contagious: studies show when others observe kindness in action they are more likely to carry out an act of kindness, too.

“It is only appropriate that an organization that bears the name ‘Goodwill’ is helping to create and spread this movement,” said Ashley Brown, regional manager of communications and community outreach for Goodwill of Middle Georgia and the CSRA. “We each have endless potential to improve each other’s lives. Whether it’s for a friend, family member, co-worker or stranger, our capacity for kindness and compassion should have no limit.”

And remember, when you donate or shop at Goodwill or eat at Edgar’s – you are also showing your kindness.  The revenue from the retail stores and restaurants helped us serve 17,492 people and placed 6,827 of your friends, family or neighbors into jobs last year.
