The Magical Christmas Storytelling Event will feature children’s book author Gerrie Sobel, refreshments and a visit from Santa

[AUGUSTA, GA] – On Saturday, December 15th, Goodwill will transform its Snelling Conference Center into a magical place for storytelling and holiday fun as it presents the Magical Christmas Storytelling Event. This free event is part of Goodwill’s Good Readers program, which works to engage young minds and foster a lifelong love of reading.

Children’s book author Gerrie Sobel will share the art of storytelling by reading her book, Jacob & His Magical Flying Bears, about a young boy and his Christmas Eve adventure with three magical friends. Guests will also enjoy complimentary Christmas cookies and drinks, and a special visitor from the North Pole: Santa Claus.

For the parents in attendance, there is also an opportunity to pay it forward: for each book purchase made during the event, 100% of the proceeds will go towards the Sobel Fund, which enables Goodwill to help needy families in the community this holiday season.

“Not only is reading together a source of joy for parents and children, studies show that children exposed to books at a young age are much more likely to do better both academically and behaviorally. Reading aloud is the single most important activity for the development of literacy skills and is critically linked to future success,” said James K. Stiff, president of Goodwill of Middle Georgia and the CSRA. “We invite all area families to get into the spirit of the season with our storytelling event.”

The Magical Christmas Storytelling Event takes place on Saturday, December 15th, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Snelling Center (3165 Washington Rd, Augusta), located next to Goodwill. Advance registration is required to (706) 854-4765 or marketing@goodwillworks.org. All attendees will receive a 10 percent off coupon to shop at Goodwill or enjoy 10 percent off lunch at Edgar’s Grille.
