(AUGUSTA, Ga) – The eighth annual GoodBoats dragon boat festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 4 at Lake Olmstead in Augusta. A celebration of Asian culture, the event begins at 9 a.m. and is free to attend. Proceeds benefit Helms College, an accredited career training college in Augusta.

“The annual GoodBoats event features children’s games, beer and Asian-themed food and entertainment, and the heart pounding dragon boat races,” said James K. Stiff, President of Goodwill and Helms College. “Helms College students will be on hand showcasing a specially curated menu, and we look forward to seeing who takes top honors this year among the sponsored racing teams.”

GoodBoats is presented by the Augusta Chinese Associations, Augusta West Rotary Club, the Augusta Rowing Club and Goodwill.

Helms College was launched by the local Goodwill in 2007 and offers diploma and degree programs in Hospitality/Culinary and Health Services. More than 300 students are currently enrolled, and more than 1,100 have graduated from Helms College prepared to embark on career paths in high-demand occupations.

“We are grateful to all those who will be paddling for a good purpose on May 4th,” noted Stiff. “We encourage the community to come out to the lake for a day of fun and great food to watch the races.”

Event sponsorships, dragon boat team submissions and vendor tables will be accepted until noon on Monday, April 22. For more information, visit www.GoodBoats.org or call 706.854.4747.
